Miss Marshall had the absolute pleasure of attending the 2026 Ethnic Youth Awards at Turanga Library.
This is a Ministry of Education initiative that supports celebrating our diverse and talented young people in Otautahi.
The Director of Education for Canterbury, Coralanne Child gave a very inspiring speech to the audience, directly linking it to the success of the award winners and the challenges some of them have faced as immigrants.
Hegby Ronald, Kumba Rusmadiharja, Hyemi Cho and Emma Tamaki were wonderful representatives of their countries of origin and for Mairehau High School. We are very proud of these inspirational students.
All of their families attended and there was a huge amount of pride in the room from all parents. Some of whom have sacrificed and pushed through adversity to provide their child with the opportunity to study in New Zealand. It was really clear the importance and value these families place on Education.
