This term, Mr Cairns put together a Mairehau High School team to join Toi Kupu Toi Rakatahi Toi Korero's Ōtautahi Youth Poetry Slam.
Six lovely, creative, and passionate students from Years 10-12 formed a group and have been meeting every Tuesday lunch time with Christchurch poet Lee Fraser (https://leefraserpoetry.com) to refine their skills in poetry.
An invitation was extended for us to attend a workshop at the new Court Theatre where we mixed with other high school students to practice, write, and listen. Next up for our talented young group are further workshops, leading up to the competition in September.
The students involved are: Shreyanshu Bhattarai (Yr10), Liam Fraser (Yr10), Tyler Williams (Yr10), Taliyah Hyde (Yr10), Bella Egorov (Yr12) and Trick Egorov (Yr12).
