Manahua te mānehurangi – Take charge of your destiny.
The Mairehau High School Board fully acknowledges its responsibility to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ensure that its actions align with the treaty’s principles. As one of the primary objectives of the board, efforts have been made to recognise the aims and aspirations of Māori, address the employment requirements of Māori, and foster greater involvement of Māori in the education service. This report highlights the actions taken by the Mairehau High School Board in pursuit of these objectives.
Mairehau High School’s Board is dedicated to giving Te Tiriti o Waitangi effect. Through various initiatives, such as embedding a Tikanga-Māori-based framework, providing Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori classes and promoting culturally responsive practices, the board has made significant progress in recognising the aims and aspirations of Māori, addressing their employment requirements, and fostering greater involvement in the education service. The Mairehau High School community can take pride in the board’s commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and creating a school that embraces and celebrates New Zealand’s dual cultural heritage.
The Mairehau High Strategic Plan is the founding working document for the Board and provides the basis for all Board operations. The plan sets out the Board’s strategic leadership expectations for the next 3- 5 years.
The Plan reflects what the Board is doing to improve outcomes for students. There is a particular focus on student presence, engagement, achievement and progress, and it describes how the Board is giving effect to the National Educational Guidelines (NEGs).
