Beginners are always welcome! You can watch any of the classes or train in the

general or basics classes – give it a go and dive right in.

Your first lesson is free.

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that focuses on self-defense through

neutralising aggression through harmony rather than brute force. The art uses an attacker momentum and movement to redirect and neutralise the attack with joint locks and throws.

The goal is to resolve conflict non-violently, protecting both the defender and

the attacker from injury.

You can simply go along and try things out. The adult’s classes may be attended by anyone 13 years and up, but if you’re younger, then have a look at the kid’s classes.

We have two dojos (places of training) and our timetable has classes 7 days a week.

For your first class we’d recommend:

Burnside dojo, Corner of Clyde Road and Morley St, Christchurch

Monday: 6:00-7:15pm

Wednesday: 6:00-7:15pm

Friday: 6:00-7:15pm
