We want our students to:

  • have a sense of purpose and enjoyment of learning
  • be challenged and stretched to achieve their mathematical potential, including gaining the highest possible grades in national examinations.
  • be supported and encouraged if they find the subject difficult.
  • develop an understanding of, and a 'feel' for, number.
  • appreciate the beauty and structure of mathematics.
  • think logically and flexibly.
  • communicate clearly and concisely their methods and strategies, orally and on paper.
  • be willing and able to explore new areas of mathematics independently.
  • learn a wide range of mathematical techniques and be able to apply them when solving problems.
  • be able to use their developing mathematical skills in other areas of the curriculum. understand that mathematics can be used to model 'real-life' situations.
  • be equipped for the 'real-life' mathematics they will encounter outside school, including the ability to interpret statistical data sensibly.
